About my upcoming book.

I have been asked to write a book about Hardcore Gamer Ministry. Since it is coming along nicely I will share some excerpts and explain how I came to what I am writing.

Let’s start with some questions I ask and why I ask them.

How long have you been a believer?

1 Timothy 3:6.

What do I mean? The enemy of your soul and mine will eat the new believer alive if they are allowed to head up a ministry. The new believer does not have the knowledge or the scars that make for a thick skin. I experienced this in my early days in the faith. It was devastating for me when people heaped unjust criticism on who I was as a person and the groups I was reaching.   I know this was true for me and many others.

How long have you been a member of your church?

Hebrews 13:7, Ephesians 4:15-16.

It was decades before I dared ask my church for ministry support of any kind let alone money. The scariest day of my life was when I confessed to my Pastor that I played Roleplaying Games. Because of my past church experience with gaming there was good reason for me to be concerned. It turns out that was not an issue at my church, not with leadership or the laity. The only questions I got were good ones like “When do we play.”

What are your relationships in the church like?

Proverbs 27:17.

Okay this sounds like the last question but it is a bit different. All of my church family has been a big help from the start. My dear friend Sharon sewed and lettered our banner, another person made the stand for our table banner, another friend gets to and from the conventions, yet others store stuff for me, another does my printing of tracts. See, they stand with me in times of trouble.

If you are  married, is your spouse behind this?

1 Corinthians 7:33.

This is another big one. If you are married, is your spouse behind it or will your spouse be your biggest detractor? A  spouse can make or break the ministry you are called to be it a Gaming ministry or a Pastoral ministry. It doesn’t take much to do this. On the other hand a supportive spouse can make your ministry a joy. If your spouse is also a gamer you may not be ministering alone.

What is your church life like?

Acts 2:41-42, Acts 4:32-37.

The local church is important to me because it was the local church that first reached out to me. Since that time I have seen how being involved with bible study at church, being a contributor to church potlucks, helping at work days, participating in the outreach of your local church.

There is more that I will post soon. Until then Grace and Peace.
